Computer Associates (Africa) has released a solution to assist IT departments to design storage area network (SAN) environments that meet requirements for consolidated data storage, increased operational efficiency and lower cost of ownership.
CA`s new BrightStor SAN Designer provides visual design capabilities to create workable SAN designs, incorporating the use of SAN component knowledge and industry practices.
BrightStor SAN Designer contains the information needed to implement a SAN, providing details on both hardware and firmware components.
"The solution can also improve existing SAN implementations," explains Dion Gerrans, storage brand manager for Africa at Computer Associates Africa. "BrightStor SAN Designer provides designers with a quick layout of a SAN, using icons that represent either branded or generic SAN devices.
"And as it is a complimentary product to BrightStor SAN Manager, companies can manage their SAN lifecycle from conception to end-of-life."
Once a SAN is built, BrightStor Designer can be used to compare it with the original design, while also using it to design new additions.

BrightStor SAN Designer enables companies to run audits and reports on current SAN implementations, providing information on configuration and changes.
