Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) has announced a new edition of its ARCserveIT storage management solution designed for growing mid-sized companies that require enterprise-class functionality at a price point sensitive to their IT budgets. Available exclusively through CA`s indirect distribution channels, ARCserveIT Advanced Edition delivers scalability, high performance, easy administration and broad device compatibility required to protect increasingly critical business data resources.
ARCserveIT Advanced Edition provides reliable, streamlined administration of multiple Windows NT servers. Optional agents allow data residing on Unix, NetWare, Macintosh and OS/2 machines to be managed from the same centralised console. It supports advanced backup and restore facilities -including protection of open files, fibre channel Storage Area Networks (SAN), high availability application fail-over and integrated HSM. It also offers comprehensive data protection for a wide array of database, messaging and groupware applications. Hot online backups allow scheduled backup tasks to be executed without interrupting online operations - helping to ensure that no data is lost, compromised or corrupted.

ARCserveIT Advanced Edition includes support for small autoloaders which the Tape Library Option extends to higher capacity tape libraries and/or autoloaders. The Tape Library Option supports multiple drive libraries and can send simultaneous data streams to all drives to optimise throughput.
Lodolo adds, "This new edition provides additional flexibility for building a storage solution that offers tremendous scalability for almost any sized organisation."
ARCserveIT Advanced Edition supports Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks (SAN) through the Enterprise Library Option and it includes free tape library support for each ARCserveIT server on the SAN. The high-speed Image Option and RAID solutions increase backup performance by striping data across multiple drives and offers fault tolerance. "All ARCserveIT technology, options and agents work in tandem with each other," says Lodolo. "ARCserveIT`s Image technology has actually attained backup speeds of 515GB per hour, and allows file level restores. It supports RAID individual tape drives (RAIT) or RAID across multiple libraries (RAIL) and also offers RAID 0, 1 and 5."
