Computer-maker to resell EMC NAS solution

Johannesburg, 01 Jul 2003

EMC has announced that Fujitsu Siemens Computers, a leading European computer company, is now offering the EMC Celerra NS600 Network Server as part of its comprehensive offering of EMC networked storage systems and software.

The addition of EMC`s mid-tier network-attached storage (NAS) system provides Fujitsu Siemens Computers customers with a high availability NAS solution with leading price/performance, says Alex Robertson, Technology Solutions Group Manager, EMC SA.

The EMC Celerra NS600, introduced in December 2002, combines the enterprise NAS features of EMC`s Celerra with the high availability and cost advantages of EMC CLARiiON storage systems in a single integrated package.

Elmor van Staden, product manager at Fujitsu Siemens Computers says the company will offer configurations for either high availability or maximum performance. "The Celerra NS600 can convert from either mode as customer needs evolve," he says.

When configured for maximum performance, the NS600 more than doubles the I/Os per second of comparable NAS solutions. When operating in high availability mode, the NS600 is priced at nearly half that of comparable NAS solutions, while maintaining superior performance.

"Availability and performance are the two main requirements for our NAS customers," says Van Staden. "The strategic relationship between EMC and Fujitsu Siemens Computers has given us extensive experience in meeting these requirements with both the enterprise Celerra and the FibreCAT (CLARiiON) families. By integrating these two proven solutions into a single system, we`re able to offer customers with mid-level NAS environments a high availability system in a highly cost-effective manner."

EMC`s Robertson adds: "One key requirement for mid-sized customers was achieving high availability in their NAS environments without complex clustering configurations. The NS600 provides customers with the availability they need, the performance that end-users demand and integration with the Fujitsu Siemens, Primergy (Intel) and PRIMEPOWER (Sparc) server products."
