Computer Society South Africa Conference 2009 - “Global games, local winners - how SA scores in IT”

Johannesburg, 25 Jun 2009

Computer Society South Africa (CSSA) announced today that although the call for papers for its 2009 Annual Conference was issued to members a while ago, it wants to open this invitation to IT practitioners all over Africa.

The conference, which for the first time incorporates an exhibition, and the Annual President's Awards Banquet, will be held at the Saint George Hotel on 27 and 28 October 2009.

The programme outline includes topics on leading-edge technologies such as Web 2.0/3.0 and cloud computing, applications, education and talent management. As the conference theme suggests, the goal is to showcase how South Africa and Africa are winners in IT products, solutions and people management.

“We have had a good response to our earlier call for paper to CSSA members. However, we believe this conference provides an opportunity for practitioners and academics to present on a wide variety of subjects, so we want to ensure that the call is extended to all in ICT and related fields,” said Darelle van Greunen, Conference Chair and CSSA Vice-President. “We have purposely made the theme quite broad, to create an opportunity for practitioners from many disciplines and with interests in a variety of subjects, to present at this prestigious event,” she added.

Anyone who would like to find out more information about the conference and banquet, submit a paper or book exhibition space, should visit www.cssa.org.za without delay. The deadline for the call for papers has been extended to 2 July. It is not necessary to submit the full paper at this time; an abstract or outline which gives a clear understanding of what is intended, will suffice.

Adrian Schofield, CSSA President, says: "We are really thrilled to be able to enhance the value that the conference, exhibition and banquet offer to our delegates and supporters by bringing them together into one prestigious event. The unique combination of knowledge sharing and celebration of success will ensure a lively and interesting two days."
