Computer Training Institute covers CompTIA`s CTT+

Johannesburg, 16 Aug 2002

The nationally-based CTI (Computer Training Institute) has effectively given a `thumbs-up` to the practical implementation and support of CompTIA`s Certified Technical Trainer certification.

CompTIA Africa, together with Thomson Prometric, recently launched an awareness initiative around the Certified Technical Trainer qualification (CTT+). The aim of the initiative was to promote active participation in the drive towards the certification of trainers. An open competition involving three categories has been set up as an additional incentive for companies to encourage their staff to become qualified trainers.

Having thrown down the gauntlet, CompTIA representatives recently met with CTI to congratulate staff on their participation, and promotion of the initiative. CTI`s managers have made it mandatory that all those who train for CompTIA certifications have to be certified, and have thus already set an example to competitors in their category.

Lars van Tonder, Manager of Academic Affairs at CTI, said: "CTI sees the necessity in fulfilling the needs of the local market. There is definitely a requirement as far as CTT+ is concerned, and it is equally important to know what the standards are around this qualification, in terms of the South African training industry. CompTIA`s certifications are internationally recognised and vendor-neutral - aspects that really caught our attention. This campaign adds value to our business because we are able to acquire the benefit of reliable external knowledge while preventing the corrosive influence of exclusivity on internal training practices. Our training staff have to fill strict criteria, including the so-called `14 competencies` and acquiring certification such as CTT+ eliminates several headaches for us - it proves that the trainer or candidate in question has the knowledge and can prove his or her ability or competency in a certain area."

According to Loraine Vorster, Sales and Marketing Executive at CompTIA Africa, the situation at CTI is a prime example of just how much value a company can derive from genuinely certified people.

"This is a strong case to add to the growing argument that genuine certification is the way to go. Corporations are tired of having to bare the brunt of non-experienced, unqualified candidates. By the same token, candidates are tired of being the victim of unscrupulous training institutions who advocate quick, over-the-counter certificates that are not worth the paper they are written on. Genuine certification proves that the candidate is capable and can be a valuable proposition for a company, and the training is authentic, vendor-neutral, and internationally recognised. We congratulate CTI on its passionate display of support for genuine certification and CTT+," says Vorster.
