Supporting one of the broadest ranges of technology, servers and operating systems of any portal solution is Compuware`s recently released OptimalView 2.2 enterprise portal.
Not only does OptimalView 2.2 support Unix-based Sun Solaris 2.6, 7, 8 and IBM AIX 4.3.3, the enterprise portal`s latest release has added useful functions such as page themes, remote content retrieval and support for multiple users and groups.
According to Pauline Barnes, OptimalView product manager at Compuware SA, the enhancements are in direct response to customer requirements.
"Supporting a broad range of platforms and functions in an enterprise portal typically requires multi-vendor solutions and a wide skills set. Compuware has this expertise, which is our key differentiator in the enterprise portal market."
Certain enhancements have been designed to further enhance the portal`s already user-friendly format. With OptimalView 2.2`s Page Themes, for example, users can define the appearance and layout of their portal pages. "You can now customise page themes using the Web editing tool of choice such as Macromedia Dreamweaver or Microsoft FrontPage," she explains.
Importing and exporting of components has been extended, with OptimalView 2.2 allowing users to use existing components from other sources. "For example, you could use a component from a portal installed at a different company site. Or you could move a component from a `beta` portal into a `production` portal. This component import/export capability adds significant flexibility for the user," says Barnes.
In addition, the portal`s support for multiple users and groups allows users to import all existing data for users and groups in a DSML file rather than entering this data by hand. When it comes to remote content, this can now be retrieved using an https protocol in addition to http protocols.
Barnes further adds that with OptimalView`s extended support of Solaris and AIX, Compuware is providing the corporate market with an open enterprise portal as an alternative to other proprietary offerings.
OptimalView`s database support has also been extended from industry standards IBM DB2 and UCB to include Informix 7.3x, Informix 9.20 and MS SQL Server 7 2000.
The extended support also includes Internet Explorer 6.0 and Netscape 6, while Windows NT and Windows 2000 as well as all major communication standards such as Enterprise JavaBeans, COM/DCOM and CORBA are supported.
"OptimalView is renowned for its portability and ability to access diverse data sources keeping abreast with the latest market trends," says Barnes
More enhancements to OptimalView 2.2:
Improved cookie, LDAP and user administration support - OptimalView now provides more cookie options, the ability to customise attribute names, and multiple user deletion.
Remote content enhancement - Remote content can now be retrieved using an https protocol in addition to http protocols.
OptimalView password encryption routine can be invoked.
LDAP active directory - An administrator can now define alternate attribute names for LDAP`s attributes such as user ID, e-mail, first name, last name, phone, address, city state and zip. This will also allow Active Directory Server connectivity.
