Comverse (SA), the developer of software applications for cellular service providers, has installed its Intelligent Short Messaging Services at Econet in Zimbabwe and Cable and Wireless in the Seychelles.
Comverse`s Intelligent Short Message Service Centre (ISMSC) is an open, ultra-high capacity short-message service platform that provides scalability, full IP connectivity, GPRS support and migration to 3G. The ISMSC open interface, Open.SMS, supports WML-based, interactive applications on any 2G SMS-capable phones.
Comverse SA MD Stuart Eveleigh said the distributed ISMSC open architecture operates across multiple sites within the network, supporting SMS growth and scalability in a way that is transparent to all users, administrators and external application providers that access the system.
"Operators can easily expand SMS capabilities, deploy new applications and add capacity seamlessly," he said.
The Econet Zimbabwe solution is a fully integrated prepaid and SMS solution. "What Comverse has done has made operators hugely interested in terms of providing real-time SMS prepaid billing. This has given service providers a marketing edge over other implementations that cannot provide such services with its flexibility and the ability to credit non-successful SMS deliveries. The solution operates on all available platforms and covers pre- and post-paid subscribers," he explained. In a similar solution, Cable and Wireless in the Seychelles has integrated prepaid and SMS over its Comverse PPS & ISMSC platforms.
"We believe our ISMSC is an ideal solution for operators because of its ability to serve current and future SMS needs," said Zeev Bregman, chief executive officer of Comverse. "As innovative network operators, such as Telecom Personal, strive to maximise the opportunities created by the demand for wireless data services, Comverse delivers high-capacity ISMSC with an open interface for development of additional applications."
