Customers based in Yeoville are receiving mixed messages from telecoms suppliers following an explosion in the area that left many without landlines.
But local companies are sending communications to their customers indicating they only expect to have normal landline services back at the end of the year. However, it appears that the customers are subject to mismatched communications from resellers of Telkom products.
MTN Business is one of the resellers involved in the situation. The company says it was initially briefed by Telkom to say services would only be available in Yeoville at the end of the year. “They have since come back - in the last week or so - and given MTN Business a revised timeline of approximately two weeks,” the company explained in a statement.
MTN Business says in the meantime, it has a backup plan in place to service its customers in the area, including sourcing SIMS and a 3G router to provide Internet to customers in Yeoville. “Fortunately, only a few of our customers are directly affected,” the company notes.
Telkom says a dedicated helpline has been established to advise affected Yeoville customers regarding their services. Customers can call 0801 31 31 31 between 08:00 to 21:00 daily to get advice on how to proceed.
