ControlCenter names EMC as world`s best for managing complex, heterogeneous storage networks

Johannesburg, 21 Nov 2002

EMC Corporation today announced that the readers of Intelligent Enterprise magazine have chosen EMC ControlCenter as the world`s best family of storage management .

ControlCenter was honoured as this year`s winner of the Intelligent Enterprise Reader`s Choice Award in the "Best Enterprise Storage Management" category. The award further exemplifies why more IT professionals rely on EMC storage management software to efficiently and automate their complex networked storage environments.

The Reader`s Choice Award provides senior business and technology managers, as well as management and business intelligence decision-makers, the opportunity to determine which IT products best enable their organizations to collect, analyse and deliver information wherever and whenever it`s needed to improve business processes and performance.

Tony Marzulli, EMC`s Vice-President, Software Marketing, said: "This award speaks volumes because it represents the collective voice of IT professionals expressing how EMC is making their work more efficient and productive. From the executive suite to the data centre, ControlCenter is providing groundbreaking capabilities to help track expenditures, manage service levels and facilitate streamlined planning. In the end, customers benefit from EMC management software through lowered cost structures and simplified management of complex, heterogeneous storage networks."

EMC Corporation is the world`s number one provider of storage management software. According to Gartner Dataquest*, EMC led the $4.9 billion market last year with 30.4% revenue share in 2001, outpacing the closest vendor by more than 10 percentage points. According to the report, EMC also led the two fastest-growing storage management software segments, Storage Infrastructure and Enterprise Resource Management, which Gartner Dataquest predicts will together represent over 67% of the total storage management software market by 2006.**

Through AutoIS - EMC`s strategy for making the management of multi-vendor networked storage environments simple, automated and open - EMC has helped customers create consolidated, easy to manage multi-vendor infrastructures. As the centerpiece of EMC`s AutoIS strategy, the ControlCenter family of storage management software enables organisations to efficiently manage and automate complex multi-vendor environments, including storage systems from Hewlett-Packard (NYSE: HPQ), Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), IBM (NYSE: IBM), Network Appliance (Nasdaq: NTAP) and Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: SUNW). EMC recently announced the next major wave of open software innovation delivered through ControlCenter, including Automated Resource Manager, the first end-to-end automated storage provisioning software.
