EMC Corporation, the world`s leading provider of enterprise storage solutions, today announced the opening of a new Enterprise Storage Discovery Center that will enable customers and prospects to test new enterprise applications using the latest intelligent storage, server and software technology. The new center in Cork, Ireland, is adjacent to EMC`s manufacturing, customer service and executive briefing facilities. Information systems executives from large and medium-sized organizations worldwide can now configure and test EMC`s enterprise storage-based information sharing, management and protection software on a variety of processor platforms including an IBM mainframe, UNIX-based servers from Hewlett-Packard, Sun, IBM, Digital, and Windows NT servers from Compaq. All of these servers can simultaneously connect to a single EMC Symmetrix system to demonstrate the ability of EMC`s unparalleled advanced software to be leveraged across multiple environments. The Center has access to dozens of terabytes of EMC Symmetrix systems for very large database (VLDB) applications. Software at the Center is provided by a number of EMC enterprise alliance members, including database leader Oracle Corp. Similar capabilities are in place at EMC`s research and engineering facilities in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. "The advanced processing and storage capabilities from EMC and key partners will enable IS executives to test a number of information-centric applications in computing environments similar to their own," said Raymond Fortune, EMC`s Senior Vice President of International Sales. "This `hands on` approach to developing new business solutions and organizing around information allows them to see a `proof of concept` before actually deploying in their organization." In addition to daily customer visits in conjunction with EMC`s European Executive Briefing Center, the Enterprise Storage Discovery Center will host a number of technology seminars addressing issues such as enterprise applications, data warehousing and business continuance. Senior executives from major European companies will be invited to Cork this year for a series of seminars, with the first being hosted by EMC and Siemens Nixdorf in April. Additional programs focusing on information protection, Year 2000 compliance, information management, and the business impact of information sharing, also are being planned.
