The Cornick Group has set a groundbreaking implementation record in the world of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. In just six months, the company has got 18 of its 21 sites up and running on IMPACT Encore, Syspro's award-winning ERP system.
The remaining three sites are scheduled to go live on the software at the end of February. Most of the sites have about 50 users. The largest furniture manufacturer in the southern hemisphere, the Cornick Group includes leading brand names such as Pat Cornick, Edblo, Sealy, Vitafoam, Grafton Everest, Grant Andrews and Panda in Australia.
Judi Simonds, group IS manager of the Cornick Group, says: "We are using IMPACT to achieve our objective of a paperless purchase order and sales order system. IMPACT does just about everything for us, from manufacture to production planning and distribution. It's also been very simple to write a few add-ons for specific requirements. Syspro has been entirely responsive to our requests for enhancements."
Simonds attributes the Group's swift implementation to a number of factors, including top management buy-in, a standardised coding structure, user involvement and a superior understanding of the software. Both Simonds, an ex-IMPACT distributor, and Bev Theobald, IT director of the Group, have extensive experience of IMPACT.
"We view the software as a critical tool," Simonds says. "The common coding structure includes aspects such as stock codes, debtors" master files and debtor codes. In addition, senior management recognised the importance of having proper stock control, excellent shop floor production capabilities and efficient distribution planning."
The Group anticipates massive benefits from the implementation of IMPACT Encore. These include reduced stock holdings and work in progress, improved customer service and delivery times, better control, enormous cost savings and more accurate logistics.
"All of these factors are essential. We can only maintain and grow our market share by ensuring that the Cornick Group is the preferred supplier -- and that means improving delivery times and making sure promises are kept," Simonds says.
"IMPACT is a very cost-effective product to install. The cost of ongoing computing in the organisation is minimal compared to other ERP systems, there's no charge for upgrades, and the licence fee is only 10% of the purchase price. As a result, our cost savings are exceptional."
The Cornick Group has achieved its remarkable implementation times with a team of only eight technical support staff. The company has been assisted in its implementation project by Syspro dealers around the country: Intelliware in Gauteng, LogMan in Cape Town, Businessware in Durban and Computer Support in Mpumalanga. The hardware for the multi-million Rand implementation contract was supplied by Hannes Kruger of Micacon. IMPACT Encore is running on Windows '95 clients and Unix servers.
