Corporates prioritise disaster recovery
Despite the ever-increasing threat of cyber attacks and hackers, business leaders who recently took part in a Honeywell-sponsored survey say disaster recovery planning and preparedness are a bigger priority than securing their networks, writes Security Info Watch.
Of the more than 400 corporate executives who took part in the survey, entitled '2009-2010 preparedness, security and crisis communications', 55% said a pandemic was the biggest threat to their organisation.
Natural disaster was ranked second by executives, with 52%, followed by data security and telecom failure/power outages, which received 35% and 45% respectively. Both data security and telecom failure/power outages were ranked as top threats in 2008.
Start-up offers EMC services
Interlock Technology is offering a data migration service that allows companies to move archived data off EMC's Centera write-once, read many (Worm) arrays on to any other network-attached disc drive, states Computerworld.
The start-up company says the offering includes both a data assessment service, which determines how much and what type of data is stored on a Centera device, and a data migration service to move the data. The services use software with a standards-based API, which the company says ensures that data integrity complies with regulatory rules.
"Centera is limited for disaster recovery and business continuity purposes because many organisations can only afford one... and you can only replicate data to other Centeras," says Interlock CEO Gary Lieberman.
