Hewlett-Packard South Africa has appointed computer supplies specialist, COSI Distribution as its third distributor of peripherals. COSI has been a national distributor of HP consumables since its inception five years ago.
Its appointment as an HP peripherals distributor is its first move into hardware distribution. Wim Heuninck, sales and marketing manager, hard copy products at HP SA says: "Over the past five years, COSI has established a low-cost distribution model, which has ensured strong company growth based on a secure and robust financial platform. It also has good representation nationwide in markets which we believe will take our products into new areas where we are looking to enhance our coverage."
COSI will handle the entire HP peripherals range including DeskJet, LaserJet and other HP peripherals. Colin Walker, COSI MD, says, "COSI and HP go back a long way. In that time we`ve built up a deep understanding of HP and the markets in which it operates. And, while we`ve not sold HP hardware before, as a consumables specialist, we have had to develop an in-depth product knowledge in order to be able to service our consumables market properly.
"We`ve devoted considerable resources in manpower and infrastructure to the new operation and the fact that we will have a dedicated team totally focused on HP peripherals will enable us to address this market from a position of strength."
COSI, which has offices in Johannesburg and Cape Town, has assigned Lindi Shortt, a company director managing national sales distribution, the task of establishing the new channel to ensure the success of the new venture.
"Our strategy is to use our experience and expertise in servicing the needs of our channel to target and develop their markets. We see our role very much as adding value and developing new markets, rather than taking market share from other distributors," says Shortt.
