Counterstrike course arms against network intrusion

`Counterstrike BBH`, the applied-hacking and intrusion prevention course offered by e-security expert, AfricaSD, is designed for anyone who requires detailed insight into hacking and network intrusion.

The three-day course encourages attendees to cultivate a `hacker`s perspective` towards network security and includes extended practical sessions. The Centurion-based organisation also runs regular Security+ certification training.

A must for IT professionals with two or more years `on-the-job` networking experience, the internationally-recognised Security+ certification is a great stepping stone to more advanced certifications like the CISSP or CISA.

"Both courses are extremely hands-on experiences," explains Hennie Moolman, Managing Director of AfricaSD, "we only teach small groups, usually six people or less, and, in the case of the Counterstrike course, attendees perform live hacking exercises against a mock network during the course." It is an approach which he believes is fundamental to the exceptional success rate AfricaSD boasts. "We don`t think you can teach people the skills they need by lecturing large groups in a classroom environment," he confirms, "you need to let them play with the types of tools people attacking their networks will use. It is what malicious intruders actually do that attendees need to learn."

Another distinction is the AfricaSD Mentoring programme, which makes the AfricaSD tutors, all hardened experts in the e-security field, available to attendees long after the training courses have been completed. "It seems unreasonable to expect attendees to assimilate the large amounts of information they receive on the courses, return to their respective organisations and simply get on with it," affirms Moolman.

"Not only are our experts available to give advice and guidance, but we have also developed a unique Learning Management System (LMS) to steer attendees through what can be quite confusing and disorientating implementations."

By cultivating a `hacker`s perspective`, Counterstrike BBH course attendees develop an intuitive, authentic understanding of network security and learn how to hack their own systems to discover and fix security vulnerabilities. As well as gaining hands-on experience using the latest hacking tools and techniques, attendees are taught how to perform their own penetration tests and the basics of forensic investigation.

Upon successful completion of the Security+ course, attendees will be able to both explain and effectively combat computer, network, infrastructure, and information security issues using the latest international security procedures.

Candidates will need between six and nine months experience in networking and experience configuring and managing TCP/IP.
