Courts selects Tallyman for global collections solution

Johannesburg, 20 Aug 2003

Courts Plc, the international electrical and home furnishings group, has selected the Tallyman system to streamline its customer revenue management process and improve its efficiency at collecting outstanding debt on a worldwide basis.

Courts, whose strength in international trading means that it has operations stretching across the Caribbean, Central America and South East Asia, will initially roll-out Tallyman to its 73 stores in Malaysia, its second largest trading area outside the UK.

The Java-based Tallyman system integrates seamlessly with the company`s local ICT infrastructure, and will centralise the customer data collected from the Courts stores located in the region, enabling the company to have a complete view of its Malaysian customers` credit status and payment history.

A key requirement of the system for Courts worldwide operations is Tallyman`s ability to perform customer profiling and segmentation. The system will also allow Courts to configure the system with key variables, enabling more effective segmentation, which will ensure that collectors focus their debt recovery efforts.

Chris Oakes, Group Director of International Consumer Credit at Courts, comments: "Before selecting Tallyman, we considered a number of global solutions. After conducting an objective evaluation, it was clear that Tallyman stood head and shoulders above its competitors on all counts.

"For Courts, revenue management is an essential part of effective customer relationship management - the way in which the collections process is handled has a direct impact on customer satisfaction. Responsible lending is a core business ethic for Courts and was one of the main drivers in the selection of the Tallyman software. Another key requirement for us was the fact that the software can help us to maintain a steady flow of revenue via our collections process - we expect to achieve ROI within 12 months. Looking forward, we plan to roll-out the Tallyman solution to our operations worldwide, following the success of the initial Malaysian implementation."

Dr David Harris, Managing Director of Talgentra, adds: "Courts` commitment to customer revenue management is representative of the level of responsibility that lenders should be exhibiting in today`s society. Companies should be implementing strategies that help to keep their customers abreast of their credit status, and taking care to market their credit facilities to those people who can afford them. The business advantages of good customer revenue management mean that companies can really drive revenue and make a visible impact on their bottom line."

The Malaysian implementation will take place over the next two months and the system will be fully functioning by November, when the Hari Raya celebration takes place in Malaysia, signalling the busiest time in Malaysian retailers` calendars.
