Multimedia communications developer Stella Vista Technologies has reported a profit for the six months to end-February, thanks mainly to a contract to provide scoreboards for the Cricket World Cup earlier this year.
Stella Vista provided the official cricket scoring software, full production software for scoring and statistics display, LED scoreboards and integration of existing scoreboards at the 12 South African cricket grounds that hosted the cricket matches.
Together with Powerview and Sizwe A/V Hire, it also provided rentals of video replay screens for the duration of the event, including equipment for TV commercial playout, instant replay and match highlights, as well as management integration services.
CEO Muris Tabakovic says the completed contract represents Stella Vista's first significant foray into the sports market, which presents about 70% of the worldwide market for video LED displays.
"Every effort is being made to ensure that this presents a springboard for significant growth for Stella Vista in future."
The contract was the major contributor to a 112% surge in turnover to R28.18 million, from R13.27 million in the same six months a year before.
Operating profit of R2.02 million compares with a loss of R3.67 million previously, while a previous net loss of R2.62 million was turned into a profit of R1.29 million.
