Telkom contracted JSE-listed CS Holdings` CS Systems Integration division in a deal worth half-a-million rand aimed at upgrading its PBX accounting capabilities. The contract was for the installation of a tailor-made, add-on module of the Ability suite from Ixchange. Ixchange developed and customised the software product.
The implementation of the Ability solution offered Telkom a complete end-to-end business solution within the Telkom entity. Ettienne van Niekerk, director at CS Systems Integration, says they were called in to help solve a fairly complex scenario in order to effectively support Telkom`s PBX business. They required a billing system for various timescales as well as a PBX asset tracking system.
"Telkom PBX`s solutions compete with world-class brand names," says Jan Pieterse, executive: business products at Telkom`s Marketing Division. "We want to offer our PBX customers the very best in terms of customer service through state-of-the-art business solutions that dynamically support sales and maintenance contracts. CS Systems Integration understood our requirements and was able to meet our tight deadline."
According to Van Niekerk, "the implementation of the Ability asset billing suite is the second part of a project we had done for Telkom. The first part was for a R4.5 million deal to upgrade their maintenance contract management systems, for which we installed the Ability accounting suite; the GoldMine FrontOffice 2000 CRM solution; and KeyFlow Commerce, the workflow and e-commerce system. This project has had tremendous financial benefits for Telkom`s PBX business.
"By continuing our liaison with Telkom in this way, we hope to become their long-term partner who can guide them through the technological advances and adaptations that will give them the edge over their competitors.
"We analysed Telkom`s requirements and business strategy with great care before we recommended this specialised Ability module. Part of the challenge was making certain that whatever software we used would integrated seamlessly with the core modules of the systems already in place. We believe the solution will impact positively on Telkom`s bottom line with immediate effect after completion," explains Van Niekerk.
