CS Education Solutions (Pty) Ltd, a division of JSE-listed CS Holdings has launched the Power User Academies for advanced training in SAP skills. Ren'e de Kock, a director of CS Education Solutions, says courses are already underway and in great demand. "The opening of the Power User Academies by CS Holdings means individuals and businesses in the ERP community have access to SAP-certified education specifically designed for the business user."

SAP-certified courses are offered as two-week full-time programmes, followed by an exam. The prerequisites for entry are that the candidate must be a practitioner or have done the SAP Overview course which provides insight into navigating the SAP system. Subjects incorporate Finance, Human Resources, Materials Management, Production Planning or Sales and Distribution. Previously business users had to do a six-week SAP Southern Africa course that included a four-week technical component, useful for implementers but not necessarily needed by the non-technical business user.

Interest in the Power User Academy has been marked. The Power User Academy classes have been fully subscribed and De Kock says that both businesses and individuals are showing enormous interest. "This gives businesses access to training that empowers the employee and increases their productivity and job satisfaction. It really pays dividends if future business users have had training prior to a SAP implementation project. We have found that communication is more focussed when the business users and the consultants have a common understanding. Individuals who want to enter the SAP market as super users are also attending. If they have successfully done a two-week course at the Power User Academy and passed the exam, they can go straight into the four week technical component of the SAP Southern Africa training."

CS Holdings has developed a nationally recognised manufacturing and ERP training capacity. SAP, the world`s largest provider of ERP solutions appointed CS Holdings as its first role-based education partner in SA in 1999. Additionally, SAPICS (South African Production and Inventory Control Society) outsourced its educational functions and services to CS Holdings. With an established training presence throughout South Africa and a reputation for relevant and hands-on courses, CS Holdings has become an acknowledged leader in business driven training.

The Power User Academy teaching approach equips the practitioner to play a more productive role with an understanding of how transactions impact other modules of the system. "The result is a more proactive approach to the job, optimising the use of the SAP system," comments De Kock. "We anticipate a very positive response. CS Holdings customer base is showing considerable interest and CS Education Solutions (Pty) Ltd has the advantage of major ERP training market penetration. The establishment of the Power User Academy is a further step in responding to real industry-related training needs."
