JSE-listed CS Holdings has signed a R2.5 million contract with Tanzanian parastatal power supply utility Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco).
CS Holdings says the deal forms part of a total contract that will be worth more than R7 million when completed.
The group is to work closely in a consortium made up of companies from the US, SA and Tanzania.
Tanesco is the last State-owned utility in Tanzania, and currently has a vertically integrated monopoly in electricity supply.
The Tanzanian government decided in 1992 to change its policy to allow for private participation in power generation, and the first phase of the project in which CS Holdings is participating is aimed at designing a solution for Tanesco`s privatisation and commercialisation.
Theo Veldsman, CS Holdings director of people effectiveness consulting, says the first phase of the contract will be concluded in June.
"The phases include business planning, business structure, the competency of the people, the IT systems, preparing the people for the change, and defining people policies and practices for the future," he adds.
