Amalgamated Beverage Industries (ABI), bottler and distributor of carbonated and non-carbonated soft drinks under franchise, has outsourced its IT training requirements to CS Holdings. Beginning 1 April, the contract is valid for one year and includes the ICDL (International Computers Drivers Licence) end-user computer courses as approved by the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
"The courses comprise seven modules covering file management and PC orientation, Windows 2000, word processing, spread sheets, presentations, data bases and use of the Internet and e-mail," explains CS Holdings business development director Deon Botha. "The ICDL is not a trivial qualification and the expected level of competence is very high. Students have to pass all seven modules, and must demonstrate practical proficiency in each of the most commonly used software tools."
"Having recognised the importance of technology and the rapid rate at which it has forged ahead, we regard this training as a key development area for our people," says ABI HR director Andr'e Parker. "Previously, all our training requirements were dealt with in-house, but we have since realised that we cannot offer internally the same level of service that CS Holdings provides."
"Their degree of professionalism, excellent standing within the industry, as well as their geographical spread were essential criteria in our decision to award the contract to them," adds learning and development director Siegie Brownlee. "Additionally, CS Holdings offered the variety we were looking for as well as the necessary accreditation."
"A large percentage of ABI`s employees are PC illiterate, and urgently need to upgrade their skills in order to cope in an enterprise whose systems are no longer legacy-based," says Botha. "ABI`s executive management team are very passionate about building skills within the company. Once employees have completed this training they will be able to leverage the full benefit of new ERP solutions currently being implemented throughout the organisation."
CS Holdings is one of SA`s leading business consulting and IT services firms. It tailors business solutions from a broad suite of integrated service offerings across the range of processes, people and technology requirements.
