Toshiba`s Storage Device Division (SDD) has partnered with local storage company Computer Storage Services (CSS), to distribute the Japanese manufacturer`s mobile hard drives.

CSS will provide local sales and support through its Midrand, Durban and Cape Town operations.

The company was chosen as the South African agent for Toshiba drives after a six-month process, during which it proved it is a focused storage provider, says CSS CEO James Grcic.

He points out that a drawcard for customers is the rapid swap-out - any faulty drive can be returned to CSS and swapped out over the counter within five minutes.

This, he says, will help its 400+ active sales partners to achieve a forecast of 7% to 10% market share in the next 12 months.

Toshiba previously stated it aims to take the number one spot in the 2.5- and 1.8-inch hard drive market segments.

According to Tom Frawley, marketing manager for Toshiba SDD, the company`s offerings provide a high level of quality and reliability. He cites Toshiba`s strengths in research as well as manufacturing of its own products.

Toshiba drives will be available through CSS from 21 July.

A 500GB laptop drive is expected to arrive in time for the festive season.
