Computer Society South Africa is pleased to announce the appointment of Adrian Schofield as its new president, following its annual general and executive council meetings last week.
Schofield needs no introduction to the ICT industry. He has selflessly given many years helping South Africa meet its broad range of needs, using ICTs not only for the benefit of government projects, but also for the country's economic growth to build a better South Africa.
Schofield's career began in the retail petroleum industry and moved on through casino administration to financial computer systems, payroll processing, and software development and sales.
The next step for Schofield was the development of people, facilitating a move into recruitment and contracting of IT skills, then on to technical training, before joining CompTIA in January 2000 as the regional international sales and marketing director.
From 2003 to 2005, he carried out consulting contracts with ISETT SETA, SAP and City of Joburg/Wits University. He joined ForgeAhead in March 2005, where he was head of consulting until moving to the Johannesburg Centre for Software Engineering in 2008 as Manager: Applied Research Unit.
Over and above this, Schofield has spent 20 years being involved in activities to promote standards and growth in the ICT sector through his voluntary involvement in various industry associations and ICT-related projects alike. He has served as president of the ITA and as vice-president for Africa of WITSA. He also serves on a number of advisory bodies.
Speaking on his appointment as CSSA president, Schofield said: "I am honoured to be elected president of Computer Society South Africa and I thank the executive council for putting their trust in me to take over the responsibilities from the capable hands of Moira de Roche."
Skills development is one of the central focus areas for the next year; with the introduction of the Computer Professional Education Programme aimed at assisting people with IT skills develop their broader business insight.
The society is embarking on a "Life-Long Learning" programme where IT professionals can obtain recognition for attending CSSA endorsed courses and events and earn points towards a continuous learning certificate.
