Computer Associates International, Inc (NYSE: CA) has announced that a growing number of customers are leveraging CA`s BrightStor Managed Capacity Licensing to streamline procurement and control software costs even as their storage infrastructures grow.
BrightStor Managed Capacity Licensing is a simplified licensing model based on terabyte capacity that eliminates the need to track server or application-based licences. It enables IT managers to implement storage management hardware and software as needed without increasing their BrightStor licensing costs.
Three different BrightStor suites can be procured through this licensing structure:
* BrightStor Capacity-Based Data Availability Suite for customers focused on intelligent backup and restore including storage resource management, desktop and server backup and recovery and high availability.
* BrightStor Capacity-Based Storage Management Suite for customers implementing intelligent storage management including storage resource management, SAN design and management, and process automation.
* BrightStor Capacity-Based Enterprise Management Suite for customers requiring end-to-end storage management capabilities including all the solutions in the other two suites.
"Customers depend on CA`s BrightStor solutions to intelligently manage storage across their continually evolving and expanding enterprise environments, but they also have to hold the line on costs and carefully allocate their limited software budgets," said Jim Geronaitis, vice-president of BrightStor storage management at CA. "CA`s Managed Capacity Licensing gives them the flexibility and predictability they need to fulfil these twin management objectives."
Ernst & Young AG keeps information protected, available while streamlining licence management
Ernst & Young AG, a member of Ernst & Young International, is the third largest auditing company in Germany, employing more than 6 400 people in 24 locations. The company often had to purchase licences and maintenance agreements on an ad hoc basis to manage its growing storage infrastructure. By using CA`s BrightStor Managed Capacity Licensing, Ernst & Young AG has been able to control costs and simplify licence management while ensuring availability and safety of critical corporate data.
Ernst & Young AG is deploying the entire BrightStor Capacity-Based Data Availability Suite on most of its systems across Germany.
"CA`s BrightStor Managed Capacity Licensing has enabled us to easily take advantage of any future licence implementation across our various server systems," said Joerg Huntermann, data centre operations lead, at Ernst & Young AG. "It`s also a fair and simple process to adjust to any future needs."
St Vincent`s Healthcare gets better management at a lower cost
St Vincent`s Healthcare System has been widely recognised for excellence in providing patient care to the people of Jacksonville, Florida and surrounding communities. St Vincent`s needed to cost-effectively manage a new SAN that optimises the archiving, retrieval and backup of digital radiography images and supports migration to a user-friendly clinical information system.
CA`s BrightStor Managed Capacity Licence allowed Saint Vincent`s to re-license BrightStor ARCserve Backup across its Windows, NetWare and Linux servers while adding the BrightStor SAN management functionality it needed - all at a lower annual cost. Under the terms of the enterprise licence, St Vincent`s can deploy all of the solutions in the BrightStor data availability and storage management suites at no additional charge.
"CA`s capacity licence was a `no-brainer` business decision for us because we were able to save money while adding management capabilities," said Mike Christiansen, Intel server and systems manager for St Vincent`s. "Now we have greater control over the costs of supporting a more efficient platform strategy, and we can mix-and-match hardware at our discretion without licensing issues."
St Vincent`s is considering a plan to migrate files and print services to Linux. With its managed capacity licence, this proposed consolidation would not require any re-licensing and would not impact its storage management software costs.
