D-Link appoints Drive Control Corporation as first Diamond Distribution Partner

Johannesburg, 26 Sep 2001

D-Link South Africa has announced the appointment of Drive Control Corporation (DCC) as the first of three Diamond Distribution Partners, the highest level in the company`s new Channel Partner programme.

The largest storage company in SA, DCC was established in 1988 as a distributor of disk drives. Since then the company has evolved from being a pure component distribution house, to an all-round storage management and solution supplier. DCC is made up of three divisions, namely storage, software and media. Each is headed by a product specialist, who is supported by a dedicated sales team, which enables product exposure to a wide range of established customers. A huge overlap between the divisions and products enables the sales force to identify and exploit new opportunities for their customers.

"Over the years, DCC has established an enviable position among distributors in SA," says D-Link SA branch manager Attie Pienaar. "Their general product distribution to the channel is handled by an effective and mature sales team supported throughout with high levels of service from all other departments within the company."

DCC`s high-end mass storage division represents Overland Data, Eurologic Systems, HP, Veritas, Computer Associates, Medea Corporation and the Arena RAID, providing consulting, supply and assembly of relevant hardware and software, implementation and installation of RAID Arrays and Tape backup library storage.

"Clearly, their product set is the ideal complement to our own offering and the partnership will enable the extension of our own customer base," Pienaar comments. "As a Diamond Distribution Partner, DCC qualifies for the highest level of support in terms of performance and achievement rewards. They also qualify for marketing rebates from D-Link`s Marketing Development Fund."

"We are very excited about our appointment as a D-Link Diamond Distribution Partner," says DCC managing director Neil Rex. "The networking arena is a completely new market for us and will undoubtedly open up numerous new avenues of business.

"We are increasingly seeing a convergence between networking and storage technologies, particularly at the high-end of the market where SAN (storage area network) and NAS (network-attached storage) solutions are in high demand," Rex continues.

"We regard this appointment as an opportunity to use our skills to do for networking what we have done for storage - develop our services from the provision of a simple floppy diskette to a high-end SAN or NAS solution. By adding the D-Link product set to our own offering, we will not only be able to provide a more comprehensive storage solution to our customers, but will ultimately also be able to assist our resellers in designing complete networking solutions for their clients."
