D-Link unveils green Ethernet switch

D-Link has unveiled the Green 24-port Managed Gigabit Switch as part of its commitment to green computing in the networking space, reports CXOtoday.

Claiming to be the first green managed switch, it incorporates D-Link green technology that automatically detects device link status and powers down only those ports that are not being used or not connected to any system at all.

The switch also reduces power usage by sensing the distance between a port and the PC on the network. Depending on the distance (cable length), the switch adjusts the strength of the transmitted Ethernet signal, thereby reducing power usage.
