D-Link, the end-to-end provider of network solutions for consumers and business, today began shipping its next-generation L2 entry-level Fast Ethernet managed switches - the DES-3028/52, through distributor Datanet Infrastructure Group.
This series includes the DES-3028, DES-3028P, DES-3052 and DES-3052P, which provide choices of 24 and 48 ports with or without POE (Power over Ethernet).
The DES-3028/52 series also provides four Gigabit uplink ports, which is two more than most other switches currently in the market. These two additional gigabit ports are designed for connections to other switches in order to increase flexibility and performance. The DES-3028/52 series is a cost-effective solution designed to meet the demands of SME (small or medium-sized business) and enterprise markets.
Choosing the right transceivers for an Ethernet switch can reduce the cost of implementation. The DES-3028/52 series supports up to nine different types of optional SFP transceivers, with ranges from 500m to 80km. The series also supports single/multi-mode 100Base-FX SFP transceivers and WDM transceivers, allowing for even greater cost reduction.
The POE models DES-3028P and DES-3052P support the standard IEEE 802.3af to guarantee interoperability and eliminate the need for separate power lines. The DES-3028P and DES-3052P automatically recognise powered devices such as IP phones, wireless AP and IP cameras, and provide a maximum power of 15.4W for each Ethernet port.
Security is an increasingly important consideration when designing networks. The DES-3028/52 series uses the latest innovative ASIC technology with 4K VLAN and includes hardware ACL features, which are superior to other products in the same class. In addition, the DES-3028/52 series supports D-Link's unique “Safeguard Engine” technology, which prevents the switch from being overwhelmed by virus/worm attacks and makes the network more stable. Other useful security features include 802.1X Access Control and Guest VLAN, which can quarantine un-authenticated users outside the intranet.
The DES-3028/52 series switches have rich management features, such as high reliable rapid spanning tree 802.1w and 802.3ad Link Aggregation to ensure fault tolerance. Other management features include secure connection mechanisms (SSH and SSL), network management protocol SNMP v1/v2c/v3, dynamic statistic management RMON v1/v2, and RADIUS/TACACS+ authorization for management access to centralise control of the account. With D-Link's SIM (single IP management) feature, up to 32 switches per virtual stack can be configured, monitored, and maintained from any workstation running a Web browser through a single IP address.
“Intranet security is taken more seriously in enterprises and the most significant task is to ensure endpoint security. The D-Link DES-3028/52 series L2 managed switches not only build a strong defence, but also offer the best cost/performance ratio within the network industry,” said Donovan Visser, D-Link product manager at Datanet.
