The Democratic Alliance (DA) has taken back the lead in an M-Web online mock election after M-Web deleted 4 000 votes cast by one user for the Freedom Front Plus (FF).
The DA now leads with 41% of the vote, or 6 413 votes, followed by the FF with 19.87% (3 108 votes). The readjusted total number of votes now sits at 15 642 after it had reached almost 20 000.
M-Web says the surprising showing by certain smaller parties prompted it to do an investigation into the voting process. It found that one user had cast over 4 000 votes for the FF over a two-hour period on Sunday.
A valid e-mail address is now required to authenticate the user before they can cast their vote. M-Web says the additional precaution should prevent a repeat of the multi-casting and it hopes the result will now be a truer reflection of the people`s choice of political party.
