Internet service Provider Data Pro and off-site, e-storage specialists, eStorage Direct - a newly-formed division of off-site storage provider, Backup Storage Facilities (BSF), have signed a strategic alliance to improve delivery to the company`s growing client base.
In terms of the deal, Data Pro will provide bandwidth to e-Storage Direct`s clients, where required, as well as providing remote server hosting in a move to boost efficiencies and provide for redundancy.
According to Douglas Reed, managing director of Data Pro, his company`s strategic alliance with eStorage is "an important strategic move", and represents one of the high-growth market sectors in the business world over the next few years.
"The digital age is creating a dire need for storage, and one of the ways for companies to cope with burgeoning storage demands is to opt for remote electronic, or Internet, storage.
"We are witnessing an unprecedented amount of `fat pipes` coming out of literally every crevice at companies around the world. These communication pipes presumably all have to go somewhere, or have a communication reason - and this is good news for the booming digital storage market as the information age seems to bring with it a concomitant demand for more and more storage space."
As companies continue to build their networks, storage companies are assisting to install a wide array of IT systems, including corporate enterprise and customer-centric systems, to streamlining media files on huge off-site server farms, or newly-developed in-house servers.
Reed said that in order to fully appreciate the Herculean nature of these burgeoning databases, one has to imagine that 1 terabyte of information is the equivalent of 1 billion business letters, which would require 150 million miles of shelf space. "With terabyte upon terabyte of information being added to businesses around the world each month, the global network storage industry is likely to be one of the high growth areas," he said.
Paul Muller, Special Projects Manager at eStorage Direct, said there is an increasing demand for his company`s services, prompting management to ensure that speed and reliability of services remain at the highest level.
"Bandwidth availability and redundancy are two important elements. Together with the systems we have in place, Data Pro provides us with that added dimension and comfort zone," he said.
He said one of the most dramatic challenges facing the local IT industry is the "realisation that electronic data storage, or e-storage, is going to be a critical business requirement for many companies".
