Datacentrix relocates GlaxoSmithKline`s IT equipment

Johannesburg, 22 Aug 2003

IT infrastructure and solutions provider, Datacentrix, has assisted GlaxoSmithKline in moving and setting up over 300 devices at its new offices and has completed the refurbishment of 140 PCs, 25 of which have been earmarked for donation purposes.

According to Kiron Naka, project leader at GlaxoSmithKline, Datacentrix moved 200 desktops, 77 laptops, 24 servers, 35 network printers, 77 desktop printers, as well as a number of scanners, fax machines and modems, from GlaxoSmithKline`s old offices in Midrand, to its new premises in Bryanston within the space of a weekend.

"Our staff were not inconvenienced in the slightest," he says. "They left the offices on Friday and arrived on Monday morning at the new site with everything set up and functional."

"Careful project management ensured smooth results," says Kylie Dutton, account manager at Datacentrix. "Our involvement in the project encompassed the correct labelling of each piece of equipment, management of the removal company to package and move all equipment, unpacking of the equipment at the new premises, set up and logging in all devices for each user.

"This was all done with the least amount of upheaval, and guaranteed that GlaxoSmithKline employees would not experience any downtime while being able to pick up exactly where they had left off when leaving their old premises."

The project also includes the donation of 25 PCs to non-profit organisations of GlaxoSmithKline`s choice, which will include AIDS clinics among others.

"GlaxoSmithKline has partnered with Datacentrix in the past, and we have always enjoyed a good relationship with the company," comments Naka. "They have assisted a number of other sizeable companies in moving IT equipment to new premises successfully and, so, it made good business sense for us to rely on them to assist us in our move."
