DataCore unveils SME solutions

DataCore has released a remote site and business continuity solution under its Virtual Infrastructure Foundation class of products that deliver data protection and advanced storage management functionality, reports CXO Today.

The new offerings include thin provisioning to automate and optimise the use of storage capacity, SANmotion to simplify data migration, storage performance acceleration software and a full range of auto-failover, auto-recovery and advanced IP SAN mirroring data protection services.

The disaster recovery package enables a company to automatically mirror critical business data over a LAN/WAN link to a remote site that can be located hundreds to thousands of miles away.

Sun boosts Solaris 10

Sun Microsystems has announced a series of updates to the Solaris 10 operating system that it says enhance efficiency, safety and reliability, providing benefits for data management and business continuity, reports SMB edge.

New security features include Solaris Trusted Extensions, which protects sensitive data and applications using labelled security technology, previously only available to specialised operating systems or appliances.

Also new is Secure By Default Networking, which automatically configures a system to be impervious to network attacks by disabling many unused services, reducing the network exposure, while leaving the system fully functional for typical use.

Olixir adds encryption tech to transportable drives

Olixir Technologies' Mobile DataVault family of transportable external hard drives now includes encryption software to provide a secure solution for storing, archiving and transporting critical or sensitive data, reports Creative Mac.

Residing on both the Mobile DataVault 3DX and Mobile DataVault 2LX external drives, the new security functionality provides easy-to-use data protection utilising industry-standard encryption algorithms.

Users drag-and-drop sensitive files into an encrypted folder that is pre-installed on the Mobile DataVault, which provides file compression and tamper-resistant password-protection. File and folder auditing tracks and records when each file was accessed and what changes were made.
