DataPro positive about Telkom DSL pricing announcement

Johannesburg, 28 Aug 2006

"This is definitely a step in the right direction," says Simon Butler, Products Manager at DataPro, commenting on Telkom`s announcement that it will trial a 4Mbps ADSL service.

Telkom announced that from September, ADSL users on the current 1 024Kbps service will automatically be upgraded to the highest speed possible, 4Mbps. The DSL 1024 access rate of R516, excluding line rental and ISP charges, will remain.

"Consumers will certainly benefit by getting more bang for their Internet buck. But more importantly we believe that this is finally a positive move towards true broadband services."

When asked how Telkom`s move will affect ISPs such as DataPro, Butler commented: "The proposed DSL changes will not negatively impact ISPs` offerings but rather add to the basket of services they are able to offer businesses and consumers. In addition, we will start seeing the market move towards the uptake of value added broadband services, such as multimedia and VOIP."
