Datashuttle unveiled a number of new Iomega storage products to the local market this week, including the Peerless backup and the HipZip portable music player.

Another new release in the range is the HipZip Digital Audio Player that doubles as a storage device. The HipZip is a small-format portable drive that stores up to 40Mb of data with built-in audio features. The drive connects to a PC using a USB cable and can store around 70 minutes of audio in MP3 format on a PocketZip disk. The HipZip includes a digital display and audio features such as an equaliser.
The Peerless backup drive is a high-capacity backup device capable of backing up either 10Gb or 20Gb data to a single disk. The drive uses the SealSafe design to eliminate dirt and includes a shockproof cartridge that can withstand being dropped from almost a meter.
[VIDEO]Cindy Jankelow, sales manager of DataShuttle, says there is a gap in the market for high capacity storage devices and the Peerless is aimed at this market. The high capacity Peerless is available for both Macintosh and Windows environments with a USB or a Firewire connector.
Iomega`s new range also includes a 250Mb Zip drive with a USB or Firewire connector. Apart from the new design of the Zip drive, the 250Mb Zip drive is "host-powered" meaning that there is no need for an external power supply because the unit draws power from the USB or FireWire connector. Jankelow says switching between these two types of connection is easily done with the USB to Firewire adapter.
