Datashuttle launches two new Plasmon tape libraries

Johannesburg, 12 Oct 2003

DataShuttle has announced the introduction of two new Plasmon tape libraries in the V-Series LTO Ultrium tape product line - the LTO 40 and the LTO 60.

"Designed to address the need for volumetric efficiency in data centres, the LTO 40 and 60 slot libraries will provide customers with additional options between the smaller LTO Autoloaders and larger 102 slot LTO tape libraries," explained Riaan de Leeuw.

"Plasmon`s rackmountable or standalone LTO 40 and LTO 60 tape libraries offer "in-the-box" scalability, enabling organisations to grow tape resources from 8TB to 12TB compressed, by upgrading the library cartridge count. Users can achieve reduced backup time with compressed throughput rates from 216GB/hr for a 2-drive configuration to 432GB/hr when upgraded to four drives. Users do not lose cartridge capacity when upgrading the drive count," he said.

"The LTO 40/60 libraries provide a perfect fit for businesses and data centres that require scalability and performance for mid-sized storage environments," he said. "The V-Series LTO Ultrium tape product range integrates seamlessly into SAN environments with certified SCSI to SAN bridges and is supported by major software vendors. Such as Qstar Datamanagement Products".

Features include redundant, hot-pluggable power supplies and drives, tape cartridge ECC, bar-code scanning and remote library monitoring for offsite status audit. Media loading and removal is facilitated by a 5-cartridge magazine located on the front panel just below the easy-to-use LCD control panel.

Plasmon robotics provide an unparalleled 3,8-million mean swaps between failure, enabling Plasmon to deliver libraries requiring minimum maintenance. Should drive module or power supply service become necessary, Plasmon`s unique front-panel access to components enable service without moving the unit or removal from the rack.
