Logical UK, Datatec`s professional services and IT network integration company has signed a lb14 million (R232 million) deal with Welsh Networking on behalf of the National Assembly for Wales, to provide a high-speed network to deliver broadband Internet access to Wales county-wide.
Datatec says the contract will result in the creation of a country-wide broadband network linking all 22 local education authorities in Wales and eight university sites.
News of the deal comes shortly after Datatec announced it had called off talks with Netherlands-based Landis to acquire the Dutch company`s networking and distribution activities.
Datatec announced last month that it had issued eight million shares to Gensec for R95.8 million cash to help it fund the acquisition
Alex Black, managing director of Logical UK says of the new contract: "This represents another significant win for Logical in deploying and managing large scale high-performance networks. It highlights our expertise in delivering a network from design right through to providing a fully integrated managed service."
Logical will design, build, deploy, and test the network which is based on GSR routers from Cisco Systems. The contract includes all hardware, bandwidth for three years, as well as professional services and maintenance.

"This investment will help us achieve the main targets of the Welsh Assembly government`s ICT strategy, and will put us ahead of other areas of the UK in bringing broadband within the reach of people."
