Dealers should gear up for the payroll bonanza

The inevitability of payroll computerisation among SOHO and SME companies will drive healthy opportunities for software dealers and value-added resellers to grow their revenue.

"Every accounting software package should now be sold in tandem with a payroll package," says Stephen Corrigan, managing director of accounting and payroll software specialist Pastel Software SA.

Corrigan adds that strong demand is being created for Windows payroll packages which translates into good opportunities for dealers. New requirements coming out of SA Revenue Services were also encouraging employers to achieve full computerisation of their payrolls.

"For SOHO companies and small businesses, the ability to meet tax legislative reporting requirements for VAT and PAYE can sometimes be onerous. To overcome this, businesses need a total accounting and payroll software solution that is geared for country-specific tax legislative requirements."

Both Pastel SOHO Accounting and the Pastel Partner V5 range, which have been designed specifically to meet the accounting needs of South African businesses, are bundled with the recently released Pastel Payroll for Windows Lite version. This bundle offers new Pastel users a total financial solution.

Corrigan believes that in the past some dealers have been nervous about becoming involved with payroll software. However, current market trends and developments are giving every incentive to do so.

"Dealers should take advantage of the dealer training offered by companies such as Pastel because with that training they can own their clients by providing value-added consultancy services covering both accounting and payroll."
