Deep Security - the first host intrusion prevention system to complete NSS Labs' suitability testing for use in merchant environments

Johannesburg, 08 Nov 2010

SecureData Africa, part of JSE-listed SecureData Holdings, the sole sub-Saharan distributor for Trend Micro, today announced that the latter's Deep Security system had become the first host intrusion prevention system (HIPS) to complete NSS Labs' suitability testing for use in merchant environments.

“This is a significant endorsement for Deep Security,” commented Lee Bristow, Product Manager at SecureData Africa for Trend Micro's products. “During this evaluation, NSS Labs was able to verify support for 57 of 58 relevant Payment Card Industry's Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) requirements, with the one indirect failure, ie, obfuscating cardholder data, not considered serious by NSS Labs as they expected the payment application itself to handle this.

“It was also encouraging to see that the product blocked 100% of the attacks on each of the three 'types' of platform, ie, Linux, Solaris and Windows,” continued Bristow. “This was impressive as the vendor was not provided with any indication of the types of attacks that would be run prior to the test.”

In addition, Deep Security offers comprehensive management across a wide range of server platforms, including:

* Sun Microsystems Solaris v8, v9 v10 (Sparc) and Solaris 10 (x86)
* Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server v3, v4, and v5, (32-bit)
* SUSE Linux Enterprise Server v9 and v10
* Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows Server 2008

“Deep Security provides advanced security for physical, virtual, and cloud servers and virtual desktops,” concluded Bristow. “Whether implemented as software, virtual appliance, or in a hybrid approach, this solution minimises overhead, streamlines management, and provides strong agentless security for virtual machines. Deep Security also addresses a wide range of compliance requirements, including seven major PCI compliance requirements with multiple protection modules in one consolidated solution.”
