Dell announces new ultramobile Latitude notebook PC

By Dell
Johannesburg, 23 Aug 1999

Dell Computer Corporation, the world`s leading direct computer systems company, today announced the Dell Latitude CS, a sub 2-kilogramme ultra mobile notebook personal computer. The Latitude CS broadens Dell`s corporate notebook line and shares docking and media modules with all Latitude C-family products.

Designed to be the user`s only PC, the Latitude CS R400XT combines performance, usability and portability in a slim, lightweight magnesium alloy chassis. The Latitude CS features Intel`s fastest mobile processor - the Pentium II processor at 400MHz - a full-size notebook keyboard and a bright, high-resolution XGA 13.3-inch active matrix TFT screen. Available in South Africa, the Latitude CS comes standard with 64MB of RAM - with capacity up to 320MB - a 4.8GB hard disk drive, floppy disk drive, CD-ROM drive and three-year next business day onsite for RXX.

For convenience and to help lower ownership costs, the Latitude CS connects directly into existing Latitude docking hardware. The Latitude CS does not require an attachable expansion base or an additional port replicator, which add weight to the system. Also, all Latitude C-family notebooks share the same A/C adapter and peripherals including DVD-ROM, CD-ROM, floppy disk and additional hard disk drive, and LS-120 drive. These devices attach externally to the Latitude CS, making it highly configurable without compromising portability.

"The Latitude CS is essentially a sub 2-kilogramme version of the award-winning Latitude CPi," said Leigh Hancock, notebook and desktop manager of Dell SA. "It is an ultra mobile notebook that does not sacrifice performance, usability or convenient compatibility of options and peripherals. Sharing docking hardware and peripherals across the Latitude line is a tremendous benefit to customers."

Dell designs its Latitude notebook line for large business and institutional customers who value a low total cost of ownership, a consistent and reliable product, managed technology transitions and optimum performance in a connected environment. The Dell Latitude CPi targets corporate and institutional customers who seek desktop performance with minimal TCO. The Latitude CPt serves , government and other institutional customers who demand systems with a low entry price.

Ranked No. 78 among the Fortune 500 companies and No. 210 in the Fortune Global 500, Dell Computer Corporation is the world`s leading direct computer systems company, based on revenues of US$21.7 billion for the past four quarters. Dell designs, manufactures and customises products and services to requirements and offers an extensive selection of software and peripherals.
