Dell recently announced a range of business-ready storage solutions for small and medium businesses (SMBs): the PowerVault RD1000, a removable storage device for data backup and restore, and the Dell | EMC CX UltraScale series, designed to meet business' escalating data storage needs by delivering the benefits of iSCSI (Internet - Small Computer System Interface), which uses an IP-based storage networking standard to effectively link data storage devices.
PowerVault RD1000 - Bringing simple, cost-effective storage solutions to businesses of all sizes
Designed for SMBs, branch offices and individual power users, the PowerVault RD1000 is a removable hard drive for easy and fast backup and protection of business-critical data. Industry research shows that one out of every 500 data centres is estimated to experience a catastrophic disaster each year and that 43% of companies suffering such an occurrence never reopen.
The PowerVault RD1000 merges the best attributes of both tape and disk media - the convenience, portability, long archive and low cost of tape; with the fast data transfer rates, random access file retrieval, data reliability and transparent capacity growth of disk. Weighing approximately the same as a mobile phone, the PowerVault RD1000 is robust, using a tough exterior design and an internal shock absorber to protect against accident.
"Customers are asking us for storage solutions that are simple, affordable and capable. Combining the speed of a hard disk with the portability of tape, the PowerVault RD1000 delivers on all of these," said Doug Downing, Enterprise Brand Manager, Dell South Africa. "We see the PowerVault RD1000 as a disruptive product for the low-end tape industry because of its speed, capacity and lower cost."
The PowerVault RD1000 is available in both USB-connected external and SATA-attached internal configurations; both can be easily installed by the customer and they have the option to schedule monthly, weekly, or even daily backups quickly and easily via the intuitive user interface.

Dell | EMC CX UltraScale storage portfolio - provides choice; reduces cost and complexity
Dell also announced enhancements to two models of its 4-gigabit Dell | EMC CX UltraScale midrange storage portfolio, offering customers the choice of using both fibre channel and iSCSI protocols for their storage systems.
Having the option to combine protocols in a single array significantly reduces the cost and complexity for customers who can benefit from the connection of stranded servers to their storage infrastructures.
