Dell boost warranties with CompleteCare

Dell South Africa has announced a comprehensive notebook insurance policy dubbed CompleteCare - an optional accidental damage policy for new Inspiron and Latitude notebooks as well as Precision mobile workstations. Customers who purchase the service are entitled to the replacement or repair of notebooks that have suffered drops, spills, electrical surges or extreme temperatures.

According to Rob Nunn, customer services manager at Dell SA, the policy also covers systems used during national and international travel. "The costs of repairing or replacing a damaged notebook can be very high, especially if there is LCD or system board damage. CompleteCare is a great way to cover your notebook against unexpected costs."

He adds that the price of CompleteCare - R1.55 per day - equates to less than 3 percent annually of the purchase price of a R 20 000 notebook. "The policy provides you with three years` cover at a single, fixed, low cost price with no excess or hidden costs. Repairs and servicing are provided by Dell`s approved expert engineers using only Dell standard parts."

Although some customers may already have insurance on their equipment, Nunn warns that in many cases, insurance policies have caveats that would not provide the same level of cover as CompleteCare. "Check the excess on the policy," he advises. "It may be so high that it`s not worth claiming a broken notebook on it. Does it provide for accidental damage? Are you covered both nationally and internationally?

"Then there is the question of claims. Many policies have a complicated and long claims process, however with CompleteCare one call to Dell technical support is all that is required."

The policy does not cover intentional acts, normal wear and tear, loss, fire, flood, theft or minor damage that does not affect functionality. Peripherals, consumables and carry cases, applications and data not provided by Dell are also not covered. The notebook must have a three year service plan (customers with one year service will need to upgrade first).
