Dell boosts healthcare

Dell has rolled out a selection of new products and services designed for healthcare IT systems, says Tech News World.

A mobile clinical computing system is designed to allow caregivers more options in accessing medical information from a variety of devices. Dell is also partnering with Perot Systems, Sam's Club and eClinical Works.

The new technologies come in time to take advantage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which provides up to $180 billion in federal funding to computerise Americans' health records and increase the use of technology in the healthcare industry.

Global virtualisation solutions provider VMware reveals that BayScribe has implemented a cloud-based dictation solution for hospitals and other healthcare providers on the virtualisation and management suite, VMware Infrastructure 3, reports Business Wire.

BayScribe selected VMware as its virtualisation platform based on customer demand. Many BayScribe customers have standardised on VMware and require that all new software systems run on the VMware platform.

VMware Infrastructure 3 allows BayScribe customers to implement a resilient and scalable enterprise-class dictation system without any capital expenditure.

A Motorola study shows that more than 80% of global IT decision makers within the healthcare industry state that mobile technologies are more important to their organisations today than they were in 2008, says PR Newswire.

Respondents cited key benefits such as increased order fulfilment accuracy, reduced manual errors and increased employee productivity due to the utilisation of mobile technologies within various clinical settings.

The Motorola enterprise mobility healthcare barometer identified the key applications driving investment in healthcare, which include electronic health records - driven by increasing regulations, computerised physician order entry, and medication administration.
