Dell brings enterprise-class business continuance features to midrange network storage system

Johannesburg, 30 Oct 2002

Dell South Africa, the world`s number one computer systems company, today introduced the Dell | EMC CX400, a new network storage system that offers customers advanced business continuance capabilities, including high availability and data protection features, in a midrange product optimised for storage consolidation and business-critical applications.

The Dell | EMC CX400 is an ideal platform for multimedia and video streaming, Microsoft Exchange clustering, medium-sized Oracle and SQL databases, and customer support systems in both storage area network (SAN) and direct-attach storage environments. The system supports 2-gigabit1 Fibre Channel technology, data transfer rates of 680MB per second, and up to 4.4 terabytes of data.

To support business continuance strategies, the Dell | EMC CX400 offers redundant hardware and software features including hot spare disk drives, multi-path failover, data snapshots and cloning, and local or remote data mirroring. Organisations can also protect existing storage investments through Dell | EMC software products that allow customers to replicate and share data between the Dell | EMC CX400 and their existing Dell | EMC Fibre Channel storage arrays.

"Today`s businesses require technology systems that enable them to maintain operations through power outages, technology failures, human error and natural disasters, and network storage is increasingly and strategically central to these efforts," said Sean Wainer, enterprise product manager of Dell South Africa. "With the Dell | EMC CX400, we will deliver the systems, services and support that address the high availability, disaster recovery and business continuance needs of our customers."

Dell | EMC CX400 customers can take advantage of established Dell SAN Centers of Expertise worldwide to assist with deployments. Dell Premier Enterprise Services also offers planning, deployment, training and support services designed for critical computing environments. Dell Services simplify enterprise computing by helping customers rapidly deploy new systems, maximise system uptime, and get the most from their technology investment.
