Dell SA has announced its latest wireless-ready corporate notebook that enables mobile users to be connected to information via three integrated communication options: wireless networking, traditional wired networking and dial-up modem.
"The Latitude C610, with its combination of integrated wireless, 10/100 Ethernet, 56K modem and dual-battery capability, brings new meaning to the idea of computing anywhere, anytime," says Leigh Hancock, product marketing manager for Dell SA.
A recent study by Gartner Consulting on the costs and benefits associated with notebook computing found that business users with a notebook who spent 20% of the time, or more, out of the office realised a minimum annual benefit of $34 560 due to productivity gains and efficiency savings.
This new Latitude features Mobile Intel Pentium III processors-M running at up to 1.2GHz and fast ATI Mobility RADEON video graphics.
"With its powerful processor and strong video graphics, this notebook offers similar performance to many desktop computer systems, only in a light weight and flexible design," says Hancock. "The dual-battery configuration can keep a system powered up through a typical eight-hour work-day. Users can take that performance with them anywhere, from office to conference room to hotel room, and easily connect to the network or Internet and stay productive."
Information technology managers and mobile users will especially appreciate three benefits of fully integrated communications: flexibility in connecting to a network, the end of expensive, easy to lose PC cards, and an integrated wireless antenna that cannot be easily damaged like an external or PC card antenna.
The Latitude C610 is suited to users working with medical imaging, CAD/CAM and 3D modelling as it features 16MB of DDR memory combined with 14-inch XGA and high resolution SXGA+ displays.
Hancock adds that expandability is another plus of this machine, as it allow users to configure a system with up to 1GB of 133MHz SDRAM, which provides greater performance in memory-intensive applications and extensive multitasking environments. The C610 also supports up to 30GB ATA-100 hard drives and a choice of seven optical or storage devices or alternatively a second battery in the modular bays, which allows for a wide variety of custom-built configurations.
The price of the Latitude C610 starts at R18 400 excl VAT and delivery. More information on Latitude notebooks is available at www.dell.com/latitude
