Drawing the distinction between one brand of computing equipment and another, let alone between the different models of computers within a single brand of technology, is becoming more challenging every day.
It takes the ability to look beyond a machine's exterior into the build quality, hidden features and industrial design employed by the vendor.
And it's something that a person can only do if they're seated in front of a machine and given the opportunity to experience using it for a couple of minutes, says Terence Barter, Dell business unit manager at Tarsus Technologies.
“Additionally,” he says, “it's something resellers should be able to do, both to keep themselves abreast of the best individual products for their customers' needs, and also to allow their customers the opportunity to make a calculated decision about their technology purchases.”
And ironically, Barter says there's no place a reseller can go to with their customers to view an entire range of products, aside from a retail store where the products aren't really suited to the business environment.
That clear need in the market, along with the opportunity to do something truly valuable for its resellers, has spurred Tarsus to shake things up and embark on a project to build a demonstration centre for both Dell's commercial and consumer range of products available to its channel. This will include a 42U rack cabinet, with a wide variety of Dell PowerEdge servers, storage and blade chassis.
“It's something that we believe strongly sets us apart from our peers in the market,” he continues, “and an offering that can only result in us building a closer relationship with our partners and their clients.
“It's also something that we believe will lead to better technology decision-making,” Barter says, “since customers will be encouraged to test the hardware for compatibility with unusual peripherals and specific software solutions, allowing them to buy with better peace of mind.”
Barter says the Dell demonstration centre will be open from the beginning of 2012, and will be available to all Tarsus resellers and their partners.
“We're sure this will become a worthwhile value-add and something that allows for another level of differentiation for Tarsus,” he concludes.
