The Dell Foundation has handed over R5 million worth of products to CIDA City Campus, a South African low-cost higher institution.

CIDA, which offers financially disadvantaged students scholarships for business degrees, received 13 servers to run all campus administration systems worth R3 million, 435 computers for the ICT Academy and 28 computers at a CIDA contact centre simulation site, at a value of R2.1 million.

Rob Nunn, chairman of the foundation, says: "We believe that through improving social conditions, we improve business conditions. We have this in common with CIDA, which is making a difference to South Africans daily. Our continued support of CIDA City Campus is proof of our commitment to development."

The computers have been used to upgrade and replace all PCs in CIDA`s computer labs. The ICT Academy at CIDA is a major beneficiary of the donation and exists to address the South African ICT skills shortage.

CIDA CEO Dr Taddy Blecher comments: "We are committed to ensuring that CIDA graduates have the relevant IT skills to ensure employability.

"This donation significantly enhances CIDA`s ability to offer the highest quality business and technology education at tertiary level."
