Dell drives centre virtualisation

Dell has added storage and server products to its centre line-up as the hardware vendor continues to position itself in the virtualisation space, reports V3.co.uk.

Dell has rolled out the PowerEdge M710HD; a virtualisation optimised server blade.

Dell also highlighted the latest version of its EqualLogic firmware that lets storage arrays offload some file operations from the hypervisor in VMware environments, boosting server performance.

VMware, Novel expand partnership

VMware and Novell have signed a deal to expand their strategic partnership, states Market Watch.

As part of an original equipment manufacturer agreement, VMware will distribute and support the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server operating system.

Raghu Raghuram, senior VP and GM for virtualisation and cloud platforms at VMware, says: "By delivering SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for VMware with every qualified VMware vSphere subscription, customers can more easily and cost-effectively virtualise Linux applications, accelerate their evolution to a fully virtualised data centre and simplify portability of their applications to cloud environments."

Cisco boosts telepresence interoperability

Cisco has introduced a Tandberg telepresence server, which is designed to make solutions from Cisco and third-party vendors work together, says eWeek.

Cisco also unveiled the TelePresence Commercial Express, a low-cost telepresence product aimed at small and medium-size enterprises.

The networking giant deployed a telepresence interoperability protocol earlier in the year to boost interoperability of immersive telepresence technologies among disparate vendors.
