Dell expands cloud to Asia-Pacific
data centre in Shanghai, China, this week to host public and private clouds and to provide customers with off-premise application and storage services, reports PC World.
PC World further states that the data centre is the first of its kind for Dell in the Asia-Pacific and Japan regions.
Research and development of reference architectures for services tied to the cloud, storage, and data movement between systems will also be conducted at the centre according to InfoWorld.
During a recent interview, Dell's cloud computing evangelist, Barton George, said Dell fills two key 'buckets' when it comes to cloud computing. It builds out cloud solutions for customers and delivers real business value. And it offers cloud-based solutions say TMCnet.com.
The company is planning to open similar facilities in Tokyo, Singapore and Sydney. To date, active solution centres in other regions include Frankfurt, Austin, Washington and Chicago reports Data Center Dynamics.
In addition to data centre labs, Dell Solution Centres are used for customer briefings, solution design sessions and software-vendor certification, according to the company's Web site.
Dell last month opened another cloud computing centre in Dublin, which formed part of its $1 billion investment to bolster cloud services and data storage offerings over the next three years.
