Dell expands centre solutions
Dell has unveiled a host of software and hardware products for data centres, expanding its enterprise technology portfolio, says Datacentre Dynamics.
The products include new servers and storage solutions and turn-key virtualisation configurations, according to a statement.
The company also began offering virtualisation consulting services.
Hitachi improves storage software
Hitachi has introduced new features for its Universal Storage Platform and Adaptable Modular Storage 2000 product lines that aim to recapture unutilised storage capacity and help IT managers increase the return on their storage assets, states eWeek.
Data storage now is all about efficiency, getting the most out of existing systems by using all available capacity and avoiding storage bloat that can be both costly and ineffective.
As a new feature that comes with the latest version of its Dynamic Provisioning software, HDS unveiled what it calls 'zero page reclaim', which continually examines volumes of physical capacity, returns unused storage blocks to the storage pool and reclaims storage space.
Infortrend moves into enterprise storage
Infortrend has released five new SAN systems that combine fault-tolerant Raid storage hardware with software to help customers manage storage-area networks, reports ZDNet.
The Enterprise Scalable Virtualised Architecture range of systems incorporates storage virtualisation, automatic load balancing, thin provisioning and replication.
It is designed so companies can add more storage applications easily, which lets them scale out their storage, rather than replace systems with higher-capacity models and scaling up.
