Dell has announced the expansion of its popular mainstream corporate notebook family with the introduction of the Latitude C640, featuring Intel`s mobile Pentium 4-M processor at speeds up to 2.0GHz.
The Latitude C600 series, Dell`s notebook for corporate, educational and governmental users, continues to be one of the best selling notebooks in the world, with more than 2.1 million notebooks shipped since its launch in September 2000. With prices starting at R21 990, the C640 features high performance mobile Intel Pentium 4-M processors, best in class video graphics, 14.1-inch displays and effortless connectivity via three integrated communication options: wireless networking, wired networking and dial-up modem.
"The Latitude C600 series is our popular workhorse of the Latitude family, and the new C640 brings even greater processor power and improved video graphics, all packed into a lightweight notebook," says Ben McDonald, product marketing manager at Dell SA. "With improved battery capacity and optional dual battery support, it offers more energy capacity than any other major competitor. Combine that with integrated wireless connectivity and you have the ultimate in `power density`, enabling mobile users to maintain productivity through most of the work day, wherever they may be."
The Latitude C640 continues one of the longest streaks in the industry - almost five years - featuring backwards compatibility with C-Family docking solutions, media modules, peripherals and power supplies - a significant contributor to lowering total cost of ownership.
The notebook offers up to 1.0GB PC2100 DDR system memory, 14.1-inch displays with XGA and SXGA+, ATI Mobility RADEON 7500 Video Graphics with 32MB of DDR dedicated memory and hard drives of 20GB, 30GB or 40GB. It comes standard with eight-cell 66 Watt Hour "Smart" Lithium Ion battery, multiple module bay options, including choice of optical drives of 24X Max, CD-ROM, DVD, CD-RW, or CD-RW/DVD combination drive, Zip250 storage drive, 40GB second hard drive or second Lithium Ion battery.
