* Expands Partner Direct Managed Services Certified Practice Area.

Johannesburg, 13 Jul 2009

Dell recently launched ProManaged modular and managed services for large enterprises, SMEs, the public sector and the channel across EMEA. Dell's new ProManaged services will help customers leverage cloud applications to simplify and automate IT management and to reduce IT costs.

The Dell ProManaged services add cloud-based IT services to Dell's existing consulting support and managed service capabilities. Dell services are organised into three specialised service areas:

* Dell ProManaged Services - Cloud-optimised services that streamline core IT management and technology life cycle processes, allowing IT organisations to reduce costs and simplify IT processes.
* Dell ProConsult Services - Targeted IT consulting services that leverage technology to provide a quick return on investment. Dell ProConsult Services help organisations simplify the IT environment and improve IT efficiency.
* Dell ProSupport Services - Dell's innovative fully-configurable support model allows IT to select the support model that is right for each individual user or asset.

Moving from maintenance to momentum for enterprise

CIOs are struggling to reduce cost and complexity while maintaining expensive legacy systems and processes. With Dell's ProManaged services, CIOs can leverage software as a service (SaaS) to solve key issues around distributed device management, remote infrastructure monitoring, and business continuity and compliance. These SaaS-based services help CIOs to lower total cost of ownership of their IT infrastructure with fewer dedicated staff, while reducing complexity of the operations.

Dell's new cloud-optimised SaaS platform offers configurable, flexible options with minimal upfront costs, for customers and channel partners to quickly deploy just the applications and managed services they need to achieve superior IT business impact. These secure services automate common system management, remote monitoring and business continuity functions to reduce the cost and complexity of managing IT infrastructure, and are specifically designed to address today's ever-increasing challenges with mobility, distributed organisations, security, compliance and disaster preparedness.

Dell is announcing a broad portfolio of new Dell ProManaged services across three key IT infrastructure management areas:

* Distributed Device Management - Customers today struggle to cost-effectively and efficiently manage desktop and mobile laptop environments. Dell's SaaS applications help customers streamline the most time-consuming, labour-intensive tasks no matter where the PC clients are located on the Internet and without a dedicated VPN. In addition, customers can add other Dell managed services, including proactive remote management by Dell, 24x7 Service Desk or technician presence for on-site support. Distributed Device Management applications and services include:

* Asset management
* Patch management
* Software distribution
* Anti-malware and virus management
* Laptop data encryption
* Online-backup and restore
* Software inventory and usage management

* Remote Infrastructure Monitoring - Designed for customers that want to manage critical distributed IT systems, such as servers, applications, storage and network devices located in branch offices, this service includes heterogeneous hardware asset tracking, fault monitoring, performance monitoring and remote access for remediation. Remote Infrastructure Monitoring applications and services include:

* Remote infrastructure monitoring
* Patch management
* Vulnerability scanning and reporting

* Continuity and Compliance Management - Enhance business continuity, disaster recovery, and regulatory compliance by leveraging a global data centre network to improve crisis communication, protect e-mail from downtime and provide long-term message archiving. Applications and services include:

* E-mail continuity
* E-mail archive
* E-mail security
* Emergency notification
* Incident collaboration

Services will be available across all Dell EMEA countries and initially supported in English language only with plans for localised services to be rolled out later in the year.

Organisations in EMEA benefiting from Dell's modular services

Organisations such as Centrica, a leading integrated energy company, are already seizing on the benefits of simplified, remote device management. The company, responsible for a number of large energy brands, has engaged Dell to help manage its mobile workforce, in particular the inventory of hardware and software assets, security management and usage monitoring.

New opportunities for Dell's Partner Direct channel

Dell will also be making these services available to channel partners by expanding its Managed Services Certified Practice Area to EMEA Partner Direct. Initially in English only, this program allows partners access to Dell's monitoring and management technology platforms as well as training required to build their own managed services business. The program has already been offered successfully to over 200 partners in the US.

In addition to certified offers, Dell will be enabling the broader registered partner community to sell the full suite of Dell ProManaged offers by enrolling in training and completing the required agreements to become a sales agent for Dell. Additional information on these programs will be communicated via Dell's Partner Direct Web site.
