Dell leads India PC market
After clinching overall domestic PC market last quarter, personal computer maker Dell became number one in the desktop segment for the first time with a market share of 9.8% in the third quarter of 2010, research firm IDC said, notes the Economic Times.
Dell clinched the top position in the India desktop PC market for the first time with a share of 9.8%, followed by HP and Acer in the second and the third spots respectively during July-September quarter, the quarterly study of IDC said.
Dell had overtaken global rival HP for the first time in the Indian overall PC segment, which includes notebooks and desktops, with a 15.2% market share in the previous quarter.
FIC debuts Windows 7 tablet
First International Computer (FIC), a Taiwan-based PC and consumer electronics company, has debuted the Tycoon, a tablet PC based on Windows 7 Home Premium, writes Digitimes.
Tycoon features Intel's Atom N455 processor, a 10-inch TFT-LCD multi-touch screen, 2GB DDR3 memory and a 120GB internal hard disk, WiFi connection and a weight of 840g.
While the Windows 7 platform supports multi-touch functions, its user interface is still optimised for mice and keyboards, FIC pointed out. In addition, although there is a larger library of Windows 7-based applications some may not be able to be completely utilised at a tablet PC platform due to Windows 7's interface, FIC indicated.
Verizon offers Samsung Galaxy Tab
Joining fellow mobile services provider T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless has begun offering the Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet PC, states the Creative Department.
Running on version 2.2 of Google's Android mobile operating system, Samsung's tablet has a 7-inch display and dual cameras for video chat capabilities.
The Verizon version will also come equipped with the provider's V Cast Music and Song ID, VZ Navigator, Slacker Radio, Kindle for Android, Blockbuster On Demand, and a game called 'Let's Golf.'
